National Coordinator

Mwai Mtayamanja

A distinguished anthropologist and dedicated young conservation leader, and a prominent advocate for youth empowerment. His work focuses on harnessing youth leadership to drive conservation and promote sustainable development in Malawi. Through entrepreneurship, innovation, and research, Mwai aims to create opportunities for young people to thrive and realise their full potential.

Chisomo Nyirenda

Program Manager - national

Chisomo Nyirenda was appointed as the Program Manager for YASCON effective 25 June and joined the senior management following his successful time as the Regional Coordinator for the central. He deputizes as the National Coordinator and oversees all conservation initiatives across the whole organization. He joined YASCON as an Area Conservation Coordinator supporting all conservation initiatives in Lilongwe district. Chisomo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Value Chain Agriculture from Mzuzu University.

Sandra Kachitsa

Sandra Kachitsa

Finance & Administration Manager - national

Sandra Kachitsa is the Finance & Administration Manager for YASCON. Prior to this appointment, Sandra served as Finance Officer for YASCON, spent her time as an ITU (International telecommunications union)-Generation Connect Youth Envoy for Africa and a Global Youth Ambassador for Theirworld and served as the Programs and Partnership Lead for the Malawi Youth Internet Governance Forum. In her new role, she strategically supports funding coordination, finance, administration and robust oversight of finance and administration, contributing to the long-term management and operational sustainability of the organization. Sandra holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Accounting, Auditing and Information Systems from the Malawi College of Accountancy.

Salomy Chivunga

Salomy Chivunga

Public Relations & Events Manager - national

Salomy Chivunga is the Public Relations & Events Manager for YASCON, following her successful time at program management unit level and also as the Area Conservation Coordinator in Blantyre. As a senior manager, Salomy supports the media & communications department, as well as a range of strategic and executive initiatives across the organisation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Humphrey Kanema

Humphrey Kanema

Financial Accountant - national

Humphrey Kanema is the Financial Accountant for YASCON. Prior to this appointment, Humphrey served as Finance Officer for YASCON and has worked with the private sector including several NGO’s in managing multimillion USADF Grant under Livelihood Improvement Program. He has expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, audit coordination, risk management and agri-business financing. In his new role, he supports finance and accounting processes for the organization, helping to strengthen consistency, governance and best practices across our finance and accounting systems. Humphrey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from Pentecostal Life University and Diploma in Accounting (PAEC/ICAM) from PACT College.

Barlon Dzowa

IT Systems Engineer - national

Barlon Dzowa holds a BSc in Information Technology from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences. He has experience in Systems Administration, Networking, database management and Python Scripting. He has led projects in network Infrastructure and IoT-based monitoring system, and is passionate about using technology to support conservation efforts across Malawi. He previously served as a conservation IT Technician at YASCON and successfully Implemented YASCON core IT Infrastructure projects.

Bridget Namakhwa

Regional Coordinator - southern

Bridget holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, majoring in Geography from the Catholic University of Malawi and a certificate in Introduction to Child Protection.She initially served as a Conservation Coordinator when she successfully led and implemented YASCON's conservation activities in the Southern region of Malawi.Bridget, a passionate and enthusiastic youth brings to the organisation proven communication, community mobilization, organisation, project management, leadership and coordination skills.

Prince Magombo

Prince Magombo

Regional Coordinator - eastern

Prince holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Extension from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He initially served as an Area Conservation Coordinator when he successfully led and implemented YASCON's conservation activities in the Eastern region of Malawi. Prince brings to the organisation proven community-based extension approaches, project management, leadership, communication and coordination skills.

Martha Megan Phiri

Martha Megan Phiri

Regional Coordinator - northern

Martha holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Development Studies from University of Livingstonia. Prior to joining YASCON, she worked as a Facilitator and Documentor for an Agro-ecology project under Chitipa District Council. Martha successfully led and implemented YASCON's conservation activities in the Northern region of Malawi as an Area Conservation Coordinator before being promoted to the current position.Martha brings to the organisation proven facilitation, community mobilization, organisation, project planning, leadership and coordination skills.

Media Relations Manager - national

John Mussa Witness holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. from Mzuzu University.John initially served as an Area Conservation Coordinator when he successfully led and implemented YASCON's conservation activities in Balaka district of Malawi.He brings to the organisation proven community-based extension approaches, project management, leadership, communication and coordination skills.
